About SMEDI The Small and Medium Enterprise Development Institute (SMEDI) is a government agency mandated to promote and develop micro, small, and medium enterprises in Malawi through capacity building, business development services, and policy support. Role Summary SMEDI seeks a qualified and experienced Senior Accountant to join our Finance team. The successful candidate will ensure accurate financial processing, maintain compliance with established policies, and support audit processes while contributing to the financial health of the organization. Key Responsibilities - Process payments in line with established financial policies, procedures, and approved budgets - Supervise and review monthly bank reconciliations to ensure accuracy and completeness - Respond to audit queries from internal and external auditors; provide required documentation and information during audit activities - Maintain sound financial records and ensure compliance with accounting standards and regulations - Support budget monitoring and financial reporting as required by management - Mentor junior finance staff and ensure adherence to deadlines and internal controls Minimum Requirements - Bachelor’s Degree in Accountancy or related field from a recognized and accredited tertiary institution - Full professional qualifications such as ACCA, CIMA, orACA will be an added advantage Membership with professional bodies such as ICAM or ACCA is required Minimum of 3 years’ practical accounting experience in a busy office environment, preferably with multiple branches/satellite offices Proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Office packages Strong organizational skills with proven ability to multi-task, prioritize, and meet tight deadlines High level of integrity, attention to detail, and analytical skills
